Choose a role that changes the reply
An invented adult museum guide offers a simple ordinary example. The guide can explain exhibits patiently, ask whether a visitor wants a short answer and avoid inventing a visitor’s preferences. These behaviors are easier to test than a long list of flattering adjectives.
Define the scene and the character’s purpose in a few sentences. Include a detail only if it affects how the conversation should proceed.
Use examples sparingly
A short example exchange can show the desired response style. For the museum guide, a visitor asks about an invented sculpture; the guide answers plainly and offers one relevant follow-up. Do not use a wall of repeated instructions when one example establishes the pattern.
A greeting should provide an opening rather than complete the user’s role. Leave the visitor free to ask a question instead of assuming what they feel, say or decide.
Keep setup and conversation in balance
SpicyChat’s context documentation explains that character fields and conversational material share the text available for a reply. A long definition competes with other context rather than creating unlimited memory.
Review the definition after a short neutral exchange. Remove repetitive lore that never affects the response. A concise setup can make the intended behavior clearer without guaranteeing that every reply follows it.
Test an ordinary correction
Ask the fictional guide for a brief explanation, then request more detail on one point. Observe whether the response adapts to the new request while retaining the role. A character should not repeat the entire setup whenever the user changes direction.
Keep notes on concrete behaviors. “Asked a relevant question” and “ignored the brevity request” are more useful than a generic judgment that the profile was excellent.
A practical record
| Definition element | Useful purpose |
|---|---|
| Role | Establish what the character contributes to the scene |
| Observable trait | Predict a response behavior you can test |
| Greeting | Create an opening without deciding for the user |
Write the character for the exchange you want to examine. More setup text does not automatically create better continuity.
